interior insight: Kate Lawrence

Interior designer, Kate Lawrence chats about working with Javier and the i space team on the Maroubra penthouse project…

What did the project entail? The client was adding a fourth storey to an apartment block they owned, so it was a new build for the penthouse.

When did you do the renovation? Late 2021

How did you meet Javier? I was lucky enough to meet Javier actually through the client who was a friend and had worked together in the past.

What rooms did you work on together?  It was a brand-new build which was three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, living and dining.

How long did the build take? Roughly around 10 months (the builder may need to confirm that haha)

What were your expectations re: the joinery? You always hope that the joinery successfully brings to life your vision. In this case, it certainly did! In fact, it was better than the 3D imagery presented so I was over the moon to see it go in.

Favourite joinery  - and why?  The Island bench. I loved it because it was different to a lot of designs I have done before. The client did not want the sink as part of the island which was also different to other briefs. I also always think of it as a jewellery box because it was so pretty with its fluted detail. It is such a beautiful servery with six deep drawers.

Would you recommend Javier and i space? “Absolutely! I was blown away with their attention to detail, particularly in the drafting phase where joiners can often miss things and errors occur due to a lack of documentation. ISpace were super thorough with all of their paperwork which then translated to the finished product which was the highest quality”.
