Houzz Room of the Week: A Kitchen Where Marble Meets Meticulous Joinery
In a Q&A format, Javier was interviewed by Houzz for their most loveable rooms series…
Who lives here: A couple and their two teenage boys, plus a labradoodle
Location: Avalon, NSW
Room purpose and size: Kitchen/dining room
Budget: Approximately $55,000 for the kitchen and dining area combined
Kitchen and joinery design: iSpace Solutions
Brief
The clients wanted to create the look and feel of more space by incorporating joinerythroughout the house, opening up doorways and losing ceiling cornices. Lighter, thicker floorboards, and taking everything up to the ceilings, also helped create more workable, brighter spaces.
Starting point
My clients found Houzz a great inspiration, and collated kitchen and dining room ideas and trends with Nina Maya Interiors. They then created moodboards, floor plans, joinery ideas and suggested palettes, materials and finishes. Everything was streamlined and simplified.
Key design aspects
Colour palette: Grey, black, white, aged European oak timbers and veneers with touches of brass.
Materials palette: CDK Stone Superwhite benchtops and splashback, leather handles, Polytec cabinetry and steel-framed doors, veneer panelling. Caesarstone benchtop in the butler’s pantry.
Key pieces of furniture/fittings: The client’s focus was on joinery throughout the house to create more space, storage and function. Dining room table and chairs by MGM House. Barstools from Fanuli Furniture.
Thinking behind the arrangement of furniture/fixtures
The clients wanted to keep the furniture and fixtures sleek and streamlined. The pieces chosen were beautiful, minimal and functional.
