interior insight: Larissa Leigh

Interior designer, Larissa Leigh chats about working with Javier and the i space team on the Watsons Bay project…

When did you do the renovation? We started planning the renovation end of 2021, completed in Oct 2022

What was the aim of the renovation?  The aim was to revive the existing and rundown 1900’s house into a modern Mediterranean abode to suit the young family who has just bought it.

How did you meet Javier? Through our trusted builder Seth from Blue Label Construction.

What rooms were renovated? The entire house went under renovation from the front to the back. Outside to inside. We dramatically updated the entry stairs and touched every bathroom, kitchen and finishes throughout. The aim was to create a Mediterranean paradise within the charming and existing architecture.

How long did the renovation take? About 8 months

What were your expectations re: the joinery? We extensively researched Mediterranean style kitchens and bathrooms. This supplied us with endless inspiration on how to achieve the look whilst making the spaces practical and family-friendly.

Favourite joinery in the house - and why?  I’m in Iove with the main kitchen, the result is exactly what I imagined it to be. Javier and Seth from Blue Label collaborated on making that come to life perfectly.

Unexpected advantages of the new joinery? We were restricted by our existing walls spaces as they were surprisingly tight. We cleverly utilised the tall ceiling height to used it to create more storage in each room.

Would you recommend Javier and i space? “Again and again, it was a lovely collaboration, and the finish and detailing exceeded my expectations.”
