interior insight: Thalie Heath

Interior Designer, Thalie Heath worked with
i space on Cronulla House renovation. We asked her about the inspiration and the completion…

What was the renovation brief? The brief was to create a harmonious and streamlined flow between all areas of the house. The clients wanted a low-maintenance and highly functional home that reflected their coastal location. Aesthetically, they wanted modern-Australian with a nod to Southern Europe. To achieve this, a balance was struck between a relaxed, neutral palette and bold features.

When did you do the renovation? The works concluded around October 2020.

How did you meet Javier? While working on another project a few years back, I reached out to Javier randomly after seeing photos of his work. Since then I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Javier!

What rooms were renovated? Aside from one or two walls, the whole house was re-built and extended.

How long did the renovation take? Start to finish, from when I first met my clients to them moving in was around two years, but the actual build took roughly 9 months.

Are you happy with the outcome? I’m thrilled with the outcome! Javier’s knowledge and attention to detail helped bring my designs to life and ensured this project turned out to be a complete stunner.

Favourite joinery in the home - and why? That’s tough… it’s a tie between the under stair storage and the study nook. Upon first sight, the finished under stair storage looks minimal and seamless. This was in fact a tricky collaboration that included the lower three stairs, worked around the steel stringer of the open staircase, a structural column, AND incorporated storage!

Javier ensured his carcass neatly fit into the carcass of the lower three stairs, and Sydney Tile Group expertly clad the whole thing in porcelain slab from Artedomus. The finished result is both understated and WOW. The study nook was designed to transform a large, open transitional space into a functional and dedicated work zone with storage, including long shallow drawers that sit under the desktop.

Would you recommend Javier and i space? Absolutely! Javier truly cares about the quality and finish of his work, from start to finish and beyond. It is refreshing to meet someone who genuinely cares about how their work stands up overtime with constant daily use. As a designer, his knowledge in working with various materials is extremely valuable.
