Interior designer, Chloe Matters, shares her experience renovating her own home in Bondi

About the renovation: Chloe renovated her entire home to not only make it functional for a family but aesthetically pleasing, timeless and appealing for resale whilst still being unique in its design. As an interior designer, she has worked with Javier for nine years, so he was the only choice to work on her home.

Here’s what Chloe had to say about the renovation:

When did you do the renovation?  We started at the beginning of Dec 2019 and finished beginning of Jul 2020

What was the aim of the renovation? To make the house not only functional for a family but aesthetically pleasing, timeless and appealing to the masses (for resale) whilst still being unique in its design.

How did you meet Javier? Javier was referred to me nine years ago when I had just moved back from working overseas and was starting up my business here.

What rooms were renovated? Only the exterior walls and one interior wall stayed the same, so literally everything. 

How long did the renovation take?  Six and a half months

What were your expectations re the joinery? My expectations were high as I have worked with Javier many times before and he always exceeds expectations.

Favourite joinery in the house - and why? I have two... Hallway cupboard - the curve is beyond pleasing to me and plays with the arches in a very simple hallway, it just works so harmoniously. And the kitchen, it's got all the little tricks, like touch sensor bins and a pantry to die over with custom spice racks. It ticks the brief of function and aesthetic.

Unexpected advantages of the new joinery? Everything is designed with intent and purpose. If designed properly it can simplify and streamline your whole life.

Would you recommend Javier and i space? There is a reason I have used Javier for nine years. He is not only a perfectionist but such a joy to work with, his team are extremely professional and he always thinks out of the box. I couldn't recommend him enough.
