Madeleine Karrys and Marie Daaboul from MXM Design Studio chat about working with Javier across multiple projects…
How did you meet Javier? I first saw Javier and i space on instagram and we loved his work. We then had the pleasure of meeting him in person early this year to discuss a project that we needed some custom furniture made for.
What was the projects you worked on together? One of the projects was a beautiful apartment in the new Crown Hotel and another for a luxury Dental Lounge in Double Bay. We also have a few other projects in the pipeline with him which we are very excited about.
What was the furniture brief? The furniture brief was to create really sleek and timeless furniture items for these high end projects we have worked on, so these pieces needed to be really special and required a lot of attention to detail, which Javier was 100% on top of!
What pieces of furniture did Javier create for you? Javier made us a beautiful dining and coffee table with black glass tops and a polished stainless steel bases, the bedside tables he made for us had beautiful metal detailing and inset leather tops, which was gorgeous. Our favourite furniture piece Javier made for us for this project was a curved desk for the clients study, it had a 2 pac polyurethane frame with an inset leather top and the most amazing stone slab to the front section. The other incredible piece Javier made for us was a board room table where the top and base of it was also made out of a leather look vinyl and had beautiful polished stainless steel detailing.
What rooms was the furniture created for ? The rooms these pieces were created for was a private apartment which included a living + dining space, master bedroom, study and for the other project was for a boardroom in this gorgeous dental lounge.
How long did the process take? The process was quite quick considering how extremely busy Javier is, the items took no longer than approx. 6 weeks.
What were your expectations re: the furniture? We had high expectations as we have seen some other custom furniture Javier had made for other clients, which we absolutely loved. Safe to say our expectations were definitely met!
Are you happy with the outcome? Extremely happy, we can’t wait to work with Javier again.
What’s your favourite furniture piece - and why? Our favourite furniture piece is probably the custom desk with the incredible stone panel and inset leather top or the board room table that was also wrapped in leather with all the metal detailing {pictured below}.
Would you recommend Javier and i space? Absolutely would recommend Javier, he is amazing at what he does - and most importantly such a lovely guy which is just a huge bonus!
